Quick Breakfast Parfait Recipe

When you want a simple quick breakfast parfait recipe that you can have fun making, especially if you involve children, this is the recipe for you.

This breakfast parfait is not just pretty to the eyes, but pretty good to the taste buds.

So what is a parfait?

It originated in France as a simple dessert consisting of small scoops of a frozen dessert made from a base of sugar syrup, egg, and cream.

In the United States, it evolved into a popular dessert served in tall glasses of ice cream or flavored gelatin topped with fruit, whipped cream or liqueur. It is sometimes made with yogurt and eaten as a breakfast dish.

We choose blueberries and pineapple for this breakfast parfait, but you can use any fruit that you like.

Granola is a popular breakfast food that can also be eaten as a snack. It is generally made from rolled oats, honey, nuts, dried fruits, raisins and dates.

Flax seed or other seeds like pumpkin seeds are sometime added for texture, crunch and flavor.

The granola used in this recipe does not contain nuts. You can, however, use any variety that you like.

Granola has a lot of history to it and in case you didn’t know, the original, called “granula”, was invented in the United States in 1894.

Ingredients:

½ cup low fat Greek vanilla yogurt

½ cup blueberries

½ cup pineapple chunks

¼ cup granola


Directions:

Layer ingredients in parfait style into a tall glass:

First layer yogurt

Second layer blueberries

Third, another layer of yogurt

Fourth layer pineapple

Fifth another layer of yogurt

Top with granola.

Tips: You can substitute the blueberries and pineapple with your favorite fruit, or combination of fruits.

You can substitute the vanilla yogurt with plain low fat or nonfat yogurt.

You can substitute the granola with almonds or your favorite nuts.
